Texarkana Ark. School District's Board of Education appointed Frank Coleman as Zone 1 trustee during a special meeting Tuesday.

"Mr. Coleman has been involved in education for over 50 years," said TASD Board President Glen Spears.

He worked for 35 years at Texarkana College and retired as the college's president in 2009, then he worked at TASD and retired from the district in 2016.

"He had been on the administration side of TASD as business manager for four years and part-time consultant for special projects for an additional three years following retirement as business manager," Spears said.

"Due to his role as business manager, Mr. Coleman is very familiar with school funding, budgets, policies and construction contracts. We felt that Mr. Coleman would make a good addition to the board of education due to his experience with finances and the construction process as we begin construction on the new middle school next year," Spears said.

Coleman will replace Anita Clay, who resigned the position Nov. 16 for personal reasons. Clay was elected to the board in 2012 and re-elected to the Zone 1 position in 2013.

Coleman will occupy the seat until the the next board election in November 2019.

Spears said were two qualified applicants for the Zone 1 trustee position.
