Airport board receives update on plans to build new terminal

Texarkana Regional Airport Authority board members recently received an update on continuing plans to build a new passenger terminal at the airport, possibly within the next two years.

Earlier this month, Airport Director Mark Mellinger told board members that engineering and design plans for the proposed new $15 million, 37,000-square-foot passenger terminal could be completed by the middle to the latter part of next year. Following inspection of those plans, the Federal Aviation Administration could green light grant funds for constructing the building, at which time the board could then go out for bids for securing a general contractor for the construction project.

Construction on the terminal itself could likely begin in the early part of 2020, Mellinger said.
