TISD officials meet today, will weigh pool agreement with CHRISTUS

Texarkana Independent School District's Board of Directors will meet at 11:30 a.m today to consider an agreement with CHRISTUS St. Michael Health system for use of the pool, supply proposals and personnel.

Currently, the district's Tiger Shark Swim Team uses the pool at Texarkana College's aquatic center, but it will close in February for repairs. In October, TISD contracted with TC to lease the pool for $10 per year and fund the estimated $2 million in needed renovations.

The lease with CHRISTUS would begin just after spring break and go through the end of August, according to TISD Superintendent Paul Norton.

"We don't anticipate the renovations will take that long, but we will have it just in case Mother Nature doesn't cooperate," he said. Renovations to the facility will include roofing, dressing rooms and the lining of the pool.

The board will also designate a backup submitter for online submittals to the Texas Education Agency. Norton said these are usually done by the superintendent, but they are required to select an additional person to submit the information in the event that the superintendent is not available.

Trustees will also consider personnel, the financial report, an addendum to Texas High's program of studies and course description guide for 2018-19.

A student academic performance report will be given, along with a campus report on Waggoner Creek Elementary School.

The meeting will be held at the TISD Administration Building, 4241 Summerhill Road, Texarkana, Texas.
