No charges yet in unrelated shootings; three sent to hospital

Victims include two teenagers

Two teens and an adult were shot in separate incidences over the weekend, but none of the injuries was life-threatening, Texarkana, Texas, Police Department said.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting victim at Wadley Regional Medical Center's emergency room at 5:36 p.m. Friday, said Shawn Vaughn, spokesman for TTPD. The 39-year-old victim, who had been shot once in the abdomen, had been taken to the hospital by friends.

Witnesses told officers the shooting occurred in the 100 block of South Lelia Street after the victim and another man got into an argument over tire rims.

The victim, however, refused to cooperate with the investigation and denied having been at that location, police said. He told officers he had been jogging on New Boston Road when he suddenly felt a sharp pain in this side and realized he had been shot.

The investigation is being hampered by the victim's lack of cooperation, police said. No arrests have been made.

The second shooting was reported at 10:22 a.m. Sunday when officers were dispatched to the emergency room at CHRISTUS St. Michael Health Center.

A 13-year-old boy was brought in by his mother with gunshot wounds to his hand and groin area. The victim and two other juvenile males were playing video games when one of the other two boys started playing with a handgun, police said. The gun accidentally discharged and bullet traveled through the victim's hand, a video game controller and then became lodged in the victim's pelvic area. Although not believed to life-threatening, the victim's injuries required that he be taken to a Dallas medical facility. No charges are expected in this case.

The third shooting occurred about 9:49 p.m. Sunday in the 300 block of Cheyenne Place. Officers found a 16-year-old male with a gunshot wound to his finger. The victim said two juvenile males drove up beside him as he walked on Cheyenne Place. As part of a continuing dispute from earlier in the day between the juveniles, they accused the victim of stealing a firearm when he was at their home and demanded that he immediately return it. The victim stated that one of the juveniles in the truck shot him after an argument between the three of them. The victim was taken to CHRISTUS St. Michael Health Center. Officers located the suspects at their residence. No arrests have yet been made in this case, but it remains under investigation.
