Shooting victim in hospital as conflicting reports are investigated

A 28-year-old Texarkana, Ark., man remains hospitalized at CHRISTUS St. Michael Hospital after a Monday night shooting.

It is the fourth shooting in as many days, which is unusual, a police spokesman said.

All the victim's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The victim in Monday's shooting was taken to the hospital by his girlfriend about 8 p.m. after arriving at The Links at Texarkana Apartments complex with a gunshot wound.

Investigators were initially told the shooting happened at The Links but found no evidence of a crime scene there, said Officer Kristi Bennett, spokeswoman for Texarkana, Ark., Police Department.

Texarkana, Texas, police are investigating the crime but have received conflicting reports on where the shooting happened, TTPD spokesman Shawn Vaughn said.

"We are still trying to figure out where it took place," Vaughn said.

The incident remains under investigation.

Monday's shooting is the fourth to occur in the last four days. None of the shootings are believed to be related.

Vaughn said it is unusual to have this many shootings in just four days.

Two teens and an adult were shot in separate incidences over the weekend in Texarkana, Texas.

On Sunday, a 13-year-old boy was taken to CHRISTUS St. Michael Health Center by his mother with gunshot wounds to his hand and groin area. The victim and two other juvenile males were playing video games when one of the other two boys started playing with a handgun, police said. The gun accidentally discharged and bullet traveled through the victim's hand, a video game controller and then became lodged in the victim's pelvic area. Although not believed to life-threatening, the victim's injuries required that he be taken to a Dallas medical facility. No charges are expected in this case.

Also on Sunday, officers responded to a shooting in the 300 block of Cheyenne Place. Officers found a 16-year-old male with a gunshot wound to his finger. The victim said two juvenile males drove up beside him as he walked on Cheyenne Place. As part of a continuing dispute from earlier in the day between the juveniles, they accused the victim of stealing a firearm when he was at their home and demanded that he immediately return it. The victim stated that one of the juveniles in the truck shot him after an argument between the three of them. The victim was taken to CHRISTUS St. Michael. Officers located the suspects at their residence. No arrests have yet been made in this case, but it remains under investigation.

On Friday, officers responded to a report of a shooting victim at Wadley Regional Medical Center's emergency room at The 39-year-old victim, who had been shot once in the abdomen, had been taken to the hospital by friends.

Witnesses told officers the shooting occurred in the 100 block of South Lelia Street after the victim and another man got into an argument over tire rims.

The victim, however, refused to cooperate with the investigation and denied having been at that location, police said. He told officers he had been jogging on New Boston Road when he suddenly felt a sharp pain in this side and realized he had been shot.

The investigation is being hampered by the victim's lack of cooperation, police said. No arrests have been made.
