A Texarkana, Ark., woman has announced her candidacy for Ward 3 director. LaTanya Blair will run for the open seat, she said in a news release.

Blair wants to work with the city Board of Directors "to generate sustainable jobs that will help increase our labor force on the Arkansas side with jobs that not only support our families, but increase our quality of living standards," she said.

Blair is a 1990 Arkansas High School graduate who holds an associate's degree in accounting and a bachelor's degree in business administration from University of Phoenix, according to the release.

She is employed with the Arkansas field office of the USDA National Agriculture Statistical Service, she serves on the board of the Texarkana, Ark., Beautification Committee, and she is a member of Women for the Arts in Texarkana. Blair has also served on the boards of Miller County NAACP and Habitat for Humanity.

Ward 3 Director Tim Johnson announced in January that he will serve out his term but not seek re-election in November. Claude Moore, a local restaurateur and member of the city Advertising and Promotion Commission, is also running for the Ward 3 seat.

Election Day is Nov. 6.
