A Bi-State Justice Building jailer has been arrested in the theft of $2,900 from a prisoner's purse, according to a press release from Bowie County Sheriff's Office.

The crime was reported to the sheriff's office Tuesday. The woman told authorities she had $3,000 in cash in her purse when she was arrested Monday by Texarkana, Texas, Police Department and booked into the Bi-State jail, according to a press release from Chief Deputy Jeff Neal. She said only $100 remained when she was released, and that she had reported the incident to jail management, authorities said.

The woman said Correctional Officer Ikkima Shavers had taken possession of her purse at booking, Neal said. A review of surveillance video led to Shavers' arrest Friday, the press release states.

"Shavers confessed to committing the crime," Neal said.

Shavers is charged with theft over $2,500 and under $30,000. Judge Nancy Talley set Shavers' bond at $20,000.
