Parents arrested after hospital finds baby has broken ribs, pelvic and other injuries

A Miller County couple was arrested on a first-degree battery charge for the alleged abuse of their 1-month-old daughter.

Members of the Miller County Sheriff's Office Patrol and Criminal Investigation Divisions arrested Charles Uribe, 28, and Crystal Uribe, 23, of Miller County. Both were booked into Miller County Detention Center, where they remain on a $250,000 bond. The investigation remains open, pending additional interviews and examination of more evidence in the case, said Capt. Mark Lewis, chief depuy for MCSO.

Miller County deputies responded Wednesday to CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System in Texarkana regarding a 1-month-old girl with multiple injuries. Emergency room physicians reported the child had multiple fractures and had be taken by Angel One medical helicopter from CHRISTUS St. Michael to Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock for specialized treatment of her injuries.

Further examination revealed the baby was suffering from multiple rib fractures, injuries to the pelvic region and leg and possible skull abnormalities. She was admitted to the children's hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.

MCSO lead Investigator Patsy DeHart, working with the Arkansas Department of Human Services and Arkansas State Police immediately began a criminal investigation that resulted in the couple's arrests.
