The Kiwanis Club of Texarkana's 60th annual Pancake Day takes place from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 3 at Texarkana College in the Truman Arnold Student Center.

For $5, people will get all-you-can-eat pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, coffee, juice and milk.

"Considering what you get this is certainly a deal," said Mark Bledsoe, Pancake Day chairman and president-elect of the Kiwanis Club.

There will also be a 5K race in conjunction with the event, beginning at 8 a.m. Registration for the 5K is $30 for adults, $15 for kids and $10 for strollers and pets and is available at signmeup.com or call the Care Pet Clinic at 870-330-4740.

Race day registration is available from 7 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. The awards ceremony will be at 9 a.m., and the Kids K race starts at 9:30 a.m.

Other activities available during Pancake Day include a bake sale, raffle sale, pancake eating contest, kids' area, cupcake walk and a Kiwanis information booth.

"This is a fun event," Bledsoe said. "Anytime you have breakfast and good food and you're able to combine it with other activities that surround the event, it's just a good time."

Involvement and support from the community have helped keep the event going for more than half a century.

"There are lots of volunteers that come in and help out," Bledsoe said. "There is just a lot of involvement from the community and you'll see everybody there."

Proceeds from the Pancake Day benefit many different programs in the community. Last year $22,000 was raised with this event, which was used to support about 30 different agencies or projects.

"We are a local service organization dedicated to serving the children of the world by focusing on kids in Texarkana and the surrounding communities," Bledsoe said.

"In 60 years, over half a million dollars has been raised."

Tickets are available from Kiwanis Club members, Texana Bank locations or message the Kiwanis Facebook page.

There are also sponsorships available for Pancake Day.
