PGISD foundation awards more than $32,000 to teachers

The Pleasant Grove Independent School District's Education Foundation recently award- ed more than $32,000 in grants to district teachers during the annual Great Grant Giveaway.

Grants include:

* Pleasant Grove Inter- mediate School

Christina Cook received $1,180 for "No Strings Attached: Uke Can Do It," for a set of ukuleles for the fine arts class. Sponsor is Electrique Corporation.

Jamie Garner and Nicole McCloud received $1,256 for "Storyworks Magazine for Fourth Grade Readers," to purchase six issues of the magazine for all fourth- grade students in 2018-19. Sponsor is Guaranty Bank & Trust.

Coker received $194.94 for "Game On!" to purchase reading comprehension board games.

Katie Clark received $699.95 for "Wired for Learning," to purchase Makey Makey invention kits to be used by 97 gift- ed-and-talented students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Sponsors are Kirby and Diana Bunel.

* Pleasant Grove Ele- mentary School

Lindsey Head, Lori Mueller, Kristi Jones, Camille Johnson, Mandy Davis, Sarah Perry and Emily Wesselhoft received $524.89 for "Learning with Lakeshore," to be used by kindergarten students. Sponsor is the McCulloch family.

Chad Blain and Ashley Barker received $5,000

for "Using Data to Drive Instruction—Istation Reading," to track, chart and gather student data for intervention and instruc- tion. Sponsors are Farmers Bank and Chad and Danielle Patterson.

* Pleasant Grove Middle School

Amanda Langley received $919.08 for "Flexible Seating for Fabulous Art," to pur- chase adjustable chairs and tables for students who need to stand instead of sit during class.

Marica Nicholas received $899.99 for "STEAM Printing," to purchase a printer for all STEAM class- es.

Terri Garner received $953.35 for "Out with the Old, in with the New," to

replace 60 old paperback books with new hardbacks for the school library.

Jenifer Thomas received $976.10 for "STEAMing up Biographies," to purchase 45 biographies for the school library.

Shelby Demuth, Kristen Gibson and Shane Riddell received $1,865.06 for "A Place to Change," to remod- el an unused girls' locker room in the practice gym. Sponsors are Rosemary and Gration White.

Irene Stanfill, Doyle Clark, Robyn Hatridge, Lisa Hurst and Lori Ouellette received $6,667.90 for "Middle School Math is STEAMING Hot," to create a 21st Century STEAM Math Lab to give 475 middle school math stu- dents opportunities to nav-

Thomas Straw, Lisa Watson, Shali Martindale, Christian Mitchell and Jacob Womack received $9,611 for "Research and Inquiry Based Tools to STEAMify the Science Department," to purchase a second Chrome cart for the department. Sponsor is Texarkana Emergency Center.

Lisa Watson received $1,540 for "Dynamic Motion," to purchase eights sets of lab equipment for 210 students to experience firsthand the laws and com- ponents of motion. Sponsor is Schlotzsky's.
