Two juveniles arrested in investigations of threats

Two juveniles were arrested in Miller County this week on charges related to threats or violence.

At 9 a.m. Tuesday, a Miller County school resource officer arrested a juvenile at a Miller County school for threatening another student.

The juvenile made the statement in front of a school official and the school resource deputy that he wanted to put a bullet in the head of another, said Capt. Mark Lewis, chief deputy for Miller County Sheriff's Office. The juvenile was arrested on a charge of terroristic threatening and taken to Miller County Juvenile Detention Center.

At 8:50 a.m. Monday, Miller County deputies were notified about a social media post made by a juvenile in Miller County that some people were concerned about. An image associated with the post depicted the juvenile holding an assault rifle with two other apparent assault rifles also in the picture, Lewis said.

"It was a widely distributed social media post. Some of the language in the post caused alarm to some people who saw it. And the image of the suspect holding the rifle caused alarm," Lewis said.

Miller County investigators began looking into the post and identified the boy in the image. The juvenile was on probation for unrelated criminal charges, authorities said.

Working with the Miller County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, a warrant for violation of conditions of probation was obtained. The boy was arrested at 8 p.m. Monday and booked into the county's juvenile detention center.

Both are scheduled to appear before a judge.

"The Miller County Sheriff's Department will vigorously investigate any threats of violence associated with the use of weapons or threats of violence in our schools. The safety of our children is a top priority, and our agency has a zero-tolerance policy associated with threats or comments that tend to alarm the citizens of Miller County," Sheriff Jackie Runion said in a prepared statement.
