Man charged with rape of minor

Silverio Avilez, 35, of Umpire, Ark., has been charged with the rape of a 10-year-old girl. The pretrial date has been set for Feb. 28 and a trial date for March 13 in the Howard County Circuit Court in Nashville.

He has pleaded not guilty and remains in the Howard County jail in Nashville.

An anonymous person contacted the "Crime Against Children Hotline" and said the 10-year-old victim had been inappropriately touched by Avilez, according to the arrest affidavit.

Kathryn House, an investigator with the Crimes Against Children Division, sent a referral report and set the victim up with an interview with the Children's Advocacy Center in Nashville.

The victim said the incident occurred inside the chicken house and he would lock the doors, according to the arrest affidavit.

The victim said Avilez told her not to tell anyone because he didn't want to go to jail.

Hope Police Officer Jesus Coronado interviewed Avilez regarding the alleged sexual abuse. Silverio alleged the victim came to the farm with a cardboard box and took her clothes off and she started unzipping his pants. Silverio said he had intercourse with the 10-year-old girl for about three minutes "before he realized what he was doing was wrong and he stopped," the affidavit said.
