Ronny Lindsey wanted to entertain his five grandchildren and their friends to start the new year so he created a source of frozen treats by freezing "Old Blue"-his 1968 Chevrolet pickup truck.

The family was celebrating the new year Sunday night when Lindsey decided to use nature's freezing temperature and water.

He placed a ladder on the sign of his business, Consignment Sales, and attached a water hose to the top of the sign. The business is at 2015 N. State Line on the Texarkana, Texas, side.

The water hose was used to let water drip down and ice over "Old Blue."

The wind blew the water all over the truck, and with the temperature in the upper teens, the water froze quickly.

The wind shaped the water into Popsicle-looking ice.

The children could break off the ice to the amount they wanted.

Lindsey mixed together different flavors of Kool-Aid and the grandchildren dipped the ice into the Kool-Aid for homemade frozen treats.

The water also froze around the pickup truck and the children used it as a miniature skating rink.

"The kids enjoyed it, we enjoyed it, and everybody in town who saw it enjoyed it. The parking lot across the street filled up, and I was worried about someone having a wreck. But everything worked out. A lot of people came over and took photos," Lindseysaid.

He had about 11 children eating frozen treats.

"This was a good way to start the new year, and maybe this will be a good way to have a good year and to be blessed," he said.

The water stayed frozen for about 48 hours and was starting to melting by Wednesday afternoon.
