Stolen pickup to be returned to its owner

A Hempstead County deputy recently recovered a stolen pickup after reportedly finding the keys in the suspect's pants pocket.

Braydon Whitney, age unavailable, remains in Hempstead County Detention after being arrested in the alleged theft of the 2003 Toyota Tundra. He is awaiting his first court appearance on the charge.

About 11:25 a.m. Dec. 29, Deputy Kyle Malone was patrolling along state Highway 371 East and Oak Street in Blevins, Ark., in search of the truck, which was reported stolen from Hope, Ark. Hope Police Officer Charlie Featherston advised Hempstead County Sheriff's Office that Whitney was the suspect in the case, Sheriff James Singleton said.

While patrolling, Malone reportedly saw a white Toyota Tundra at a home at 110 Oak St. Malone also reported seeing two, white male occupants in the truck.

Malone spoke with the men and confirmed that the man in the driver's seat was Whitney. The other occupant lived at the home.

While searching Whitney, Malone reportedly found the keys to the vehicle in Whitney's left front pants pocket.

Malone contacted the owner of the vehicle and told him the truck had been found.
