Three inmates accused of having contraband, including a drug used to treat opioid addiction

Three inmates of Texarkana's Federal Correctional Institution were in court Thursday on charges of possessing contraband in prison.

Chester Brown, 42, appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Caroline Craven for arraignment on a charge that he attempted to possess buprenorphine, a drug used to treat opioid addiction. Craven appointed Texarkana lawyer Howard Mowery to represent Brown and Mowery entered a plea of not guilty on Brown's behalf.

Brown's alleged misconduct occurred March 29. If found guilty, Brown faces up to 20 years in federal prison, a fine up to $250,000, or both. Craven scheduled the case for jury selection next month before U.S. District Judge Robert Schroeder III in the Texarkana Division of the Eastern District of Texas.

Eric Wayne Grimes, 33, is accused of possessing MDMB-CHMICA (synthetic marijuana) while in federal prison May 1. Craven appointed Texarkana lawyer Craig Henry to represent Grimes and Henry entered a not guilty plea on Grimes' behalf. Craven scheduled Grimes' case for jury selection before Schroeder next month. If found guilty, Grimes faces up to 10 years in prison, a fine up to $250,000, or both.

Charles Webb, 43, appeared before Craven and was appointed Texarkana lawyer Matthew Golden, who entered a not guilty plea on Webb's behalf. Webb is accused of possessing methamphetamine in prison Aug. 4. Webb's case is scheduled for jury selection before Schroeder next month as well. Webb faces up to 20 years in prison, a fine up to $250,000, or both.

Any sentence received for contraband possession must be served consecutively to the time the men are already serving. Brown's scheduled release date is Jan. 5, 2035, according to the Bureau of Prisons website. Grimes' scheduled release date is Sept. 8, 2022, according to the BOP. Webb's scheduled release date is Nov. 22, 2022.

All of the men are being held at Texarkana FCI.
