Person of interest taken into custody in Sugarhill-area shooting death

A man was shot to death Friday afternoon in Texarkana, Ark., and another man who lives about half a mile away was taken into custody for questioning about the shooting.

The deceased man was found in the backyard of a residence near U.S. Highway 67 at the Texarkana, Ark., city limit. The 911 call was made about 2:30 p.m. Friday.

The man taken into custody reportedly lives on Sugarhill Road near U.S. 67, about half a mile from the shooting.

The names of the suspect and victim have not been released, said Chief Deputy Mark Lewis of Miller County Sheriff's Office.

"We're in the preliminary stages of the investigation and interviewing people," Lewis said.

Two search warrants would be issued later Friday afternoon allowing the law enforcement agencies to continue the investigation, he said.

The victim's body will be taken to Arkansas State Police crime lab for an autopsy.
