Walmart has announced the closing of 63 Sam's Club stores. The Texarkana location will remain open.
In the Four States area, only Texas has stores on the list. These are in Houston, New Caney and San Antonio.
"After a thorough review of our existing portfolio, we've decided to close a series of clubs and better align our locations with our strategy. Closing clubs is never easy, and we are committed to working with impacted members and associates through this transition," the company said in a statement on Twitter.
According to Business Insider, several stores were abruptly closed, and in some cases, some employees were said to show up for work to stores already closed.
Ten of the affected stores will be turned into e-commerce distribution centers. Displaced employees will have the opportunity to reapply for positions at those locations, according to company officials.
The remaining stores will stay open for several weeks before closing permanently.
