Trustees of Liberty-Eylau Independent School District will meet at 6 p.m. today to consider calling for a board election May 5.

Place 1's Scott Bergt and Place 2's James Keeton's three-year seats will be up for re-election. Bergt ran unopposed in 2015, with Keeton defeating challenger Joe Knight in the same election.

Early voting is scheduled April 23 through May 1 at the L-E Administration Office.

The board also will consider sending a low-attendance waiver to the Texas Education Agency for Dec. 22, 2017, as the average daily attendance was 67.2 percent that day. According to district spokesman Matt Fry, many students were out with the flu.

"When calculating the average daily attendance, it changes the denominator," Fry said.

Texas public school districts receive their funding based on the ADA. Thus, a low-attendance day could mean a loss of money.

"One percentage point (difference) can be a big deal across the school year," he said.

Trustees will also consider December 2017 expenditures, the investment report and transfer students.

The meeting will be in the boardroom at the administration building, 2901 Leopard Drive.
