Area United Way announces dates for fundraising trip

United Way of Greater Texarkana recently announced the dates and destination for its annual fundraising trip.

"This year we decided to poll those who had traveled with us before, and Russia was the destination they decided interested them the most," said Mark Bledsoe, United Way president/CEO.

The trip is slated to take place from Sept. 8-19 and will cost travelers $3,599 each. That price includes round-trip airfare from Dallas, first-class accommodations aboard the four-star MS Ivan Bunin cruise ship, superb cuisine, daily entertainment, a sightseeing tour program, a professional tour director, professional tour guides, baggage handling, deluxe motor coaches, fuel taxes, surcharges and port taxes.

"Points of interests will include such places as the Kremlin, Red Square, St. Basil Cathedral, Bolshoi Theatre, Church of Elijah the Prophet, Grandiose Kirill-Belozersky Monastery and many other magnificent architectural wonders," Bledsoe said. "We will cruise the Russian waterways between Moscow and St. Petersburg having to pack and unpack just once."

There will be an introductory meeting where the trip will be discussed in detail at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 29 at Texarkana College in Levi Hall. Anyone who is interested is invited to attend this meeting.

The trip is also a way for the United Way to raise its profile in the community.

"It's partly a fundraiser but also a chance to get supporters and potential supporters on a trip of a lifetime," Bledsoe said. "As a nonprofit with limited funding, we had to think of alternative ways to help raise money for the many programs in the region the United Way of Greater Texarkana supports, 33 at last count."
