Girl Scout cookies are back to delight

Girl Scouts-Diamonds of Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas recently kicked off their 101 year of selling delicious cookies.

The S'mores cookie, the most popular flavor to launch during that time frame, is available along with Thin Mints, Samoas, Tagalongs, Trefoils, Do-si-dos, Savannah Smiles and the gluten-free Toffee-tastic. In Arkansas Samoas are the most popular but nationwide Thin Mints gets that accolade.

The cookie sell not only raises money for individual scouts, the troops and the council, it also teaches the participants some important lessons.

"There are five skills the girls learn from this cookie program-goal setting, decision making, people skills, business ethics and money management," said Alexus Raymo, communication specialist for the Diamonds council. "They keep a portion of the money they make from cookie sales and they get to decide what they want to do with it. A lot of troops take trips or invest back in the community with different projects. That's the decision-making aspect of the program."

Consumers are asked to support the Girl Scouts by ordering cookies from a Girl Scout in person or digitally or visiting a local booth sale. For help finding a girl scout in this area email [email protected].

Booth sales will begin March 3. Locations of booths can be found by visiting girlscoutsdiamonds.org/findcookies or by using the Girl Scout Cookie Finder app which is free on iOS and Android devices.
