CHRISTUS St. Michael gets Outstanding Patient Experience Award

CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System received a national Healthgrades Outstanding Patient Experience Award for 2018.

This year, 439 hospitals received the Healthgrades Outstanding Patient Experience Award, representing the top 15 percent of hospitals in the nation for patient experience.

"We are honored to be recognized for the effort and energy this system puts into ensuring our patients have the best possible experience when they visit our facilities," said Chris Karam, president/CEO of CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System and chief patient experience officer for CHRISTUS Health.

Healthgrades evaluated 3,478 hospitals that submitted at least 100 patient experience surveys to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, covering admissions from April 2016 to March 2017 to identify hospital performance in this area.

Healthgrades evaluated hospital performance by applying a scoring methodology to 10 patient experience measures, using data from a 32-question survey of the hospital's patients. Questions focus on patients' perspectives of their experience at the hospital including cleanliness and noise levels in patient rooms, pain management, responsiveness to patients' needs and whether a patient would recommend the hospital.

"We value the feedback of our community and the patients we serve," Karam said. "This recognition is based on their feedback and priorities. We will continue to build on the trust they place in us to deliver high-quality, faith-based care to every person that we see."
