Arkansas side moves to resurface 2 city streets

The Texarkana, Ark., Board of Directors voted for a measure to improve two city streets during Monday's regular meeting at City Hall.

Board members voted unanimously to committing about $35,000 in matching funds to secure a state grant that will pay for resurfacing East 19th Street from Northcutt Street to L.E. Gilliand Drive, and Grim Street from Division to Forest streets.

In January, the state transportation department awarded a grant to the city to pay for construction in the project, contingent on the city providing a 10 percent match.

The city also approved buying a pickup for the city Public Works Department and authorized contracts for two water line improvements.

The purchase price for the Dodge Ram 2500 is $25,791 and will be paid for out of the city's street capital funds.

The contracts are for extension of water mains along East 18th Street at a cost of more than $104,000, and from McClure Road to Owl Ridge Drive for about $60,000. The cost of both projects will be covered by the city budget.
