Water plan on tap at Riverbend

Riverbend Water Resources District will hold two meetings this week on the Regional Water Master Plan, which outlines projected population and future infrastructure and water needs for the area.

The first meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the New Boston Community Center, located at 301 E. North Front St. in New Boston, Texas.

The second will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Ballroom B of the Texarkana Convention Center, 2910 Cowhorn Creek Loop, Texarkana, Texas.

Consultant Susan Roth and representatives from Carollo Engineers will give the presentations on the plan, which includes a new water treatment plant at TexAmericas Center that will eventually serve the entire Texarkana region. During a town hall meeting in October 2017, Roth said Phase 1 of the project would cost approximately $190 million and serve all TexAmerica Center's raw water needs. In 2025, half of the city of Texarkana, Texas' demand would be brought over from the New Boston Road plant. The plan shows that by 2030, the plant would serve the needs for all of Texarkana, Texas, and Riverbend's 16 member entities.

At that time, the entire project was estimated to cost $285 million.

A public comment period will be held at the end of each meeting. Speakers must sign in on the public comment sheet prior to the meeting, and comments are limited to five minutes per speaker.

Meeting agendas are available at rwrd.org.
