State resurfacing area roadways

Work began June 6 to resurface parts of U.S. Highways 67, 71 and 82, including sections of East Eighth and Ninth streets in Texarkana, Ark.

Arkansas Department of Transportation called for this "pavement preservation" operation on several miles of road.

"We are working on a total of 7.4 miles of asphalt on these highways," said William Cheatham, district construction engineer for ArDOT District 3, headquartered in Hope.

Redstone Construction got the job with a $3.4 million contract bid.

"We should be finished with this around Aug. 10," Cheatham said.
