Charges dismissed in alleged assault

Charges have been dismissed against a Pattonville, Texas, man accused of punching his 65-year-old supervisor at a Texarkana trucking company in 2014.

A jury was unable to reach a verdict in the case of Michael Gipson, 55, at the end of a trial last year at Bowie County Courthouse in New Boston, Texas. The jury deadlock led 202nd District Judge John Tidwell to declare a mistrial in September.

Gipson allegedly was upset because the supervisor told him his services were no longer needed. Gipson claimed the supervisor was the aggressor and that he acted in self-defense.

On Wednesday, First Assistant District Attorney Mike Shepherd filed a motion to dismiss the charge against Gipson. Tidwell granted the motion the same day.

Gipston was represented by Texarkana lawyer Josh Potter.
