Arkansas-side Board of Directors hears budget update

An update on city revenues and expenditures was the highlight of Monday's meeting of the Texarkana, Ark., Board of Directors, which lasted less than 25 minutes.

Finance Director TyRhonda Henderson told the board that January through March, the city brought in about $131,000 more than it spent.

Revenues for the first quarter of 2018 were $4,290,445 and expenditures were $4,159,266, according to a budget variance report Henderson delivered to the board. Those figures represent 23 percent and 21 percent, respectively, of the total amounts budgeted for the year.

Ward 2 Director Laney Harris spoke during citizen communication time and asked for clarification regarding rules for giving presentations during board meetings.

Harris said his understanding is that only city employees may give presentations, but on some recent occasions, residents not employed by the city have done so. He also questioned why he has not been allowed to give a presentation on health care in the Bi-State Jail.

As is usual during citizen communication, the other board members did not respond.

The board's next meeting is scheduled for July 2.
