Ark-Tex Council holds fan drive for seniors

Ark-Tex Council of Governments/Area Agency on Aging is holding a fan drive for senior adults in memory of late employee Vinie Reed.

Reed, who was a caseworker for 20 years, died in 2016.

"Vinie organized the fan drive for the Area Agency on Aging every year," ATCOG Manager Lisa Reeve said.

The agency has received about 20 fans.

Reeve said many older people, especially ones on a fixed income, suffer during the summer months.

"A lot of times they have central air but don't turn it on because of the cost," she said.

The fans are for Texas and Arkansas residents who are 60 or older. If the organization runs out of fans, people who need them will be put on a waiting list in case more are donated.

People can donate fans by bringing them to 4808 Elizabeth St. in Texarkana.

Hours are 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Monetary donations are accepted as well.
