Fewer than 2,500 early votes cast

Party primaries are Tuesday

NEW BOSTON, Texas-With slightly less than 2,500 votes cast in Bowie County's early voting period for the March 6 party primaries, ballot totals show a lighter turnout than those for the last two midterm spring primary elections of 2014 and 2010.

With 2,491 overall votes counted Friday, the final day of early voting, Bowie County Elections Administrator George Stegall said the total represented about 500 to 600 votes less than those cast in the 2014 spring primary.

Of the total number, Republican voters cast 2,163, while the Democrats cast 328.

Stegall added that the 2010 spring primary election brought in a surprisingly high voter participation owing in large measure to Tea Party participation that year.
