A generator continued to provide electricity to the Texarkana, Ark., municipal building Tuesday morning as a crew worked to replace old technology that caused a power outage Monday.

A short circuit in the main power connection to the building-which contains City Hall, a fire station and an auditorium-caused black scorch marks on a wall and left municipal employees dependent on an emergency generator.

Operations of the fire station have not been affected by the disruption, City Manager Kenny Haskin said Monday.

A "skeleton crew" was on duty in City Hall on Tuesday, staff said. The building's phone system did not function for a time Monday afternoon but was working again Tuesday.

The failed connection uses technology so old that replacement parts are difficult to find, so workers with local company Artex Electric are rebuilding it using modern equipment.

The crew said it expected to be done with the work sometime Tuesday.
