A Texarkana, Texas, man has been arrested in connection with a fatal accident that happened Tuesday, and a warrant has been issued for a second suspect.

Gilbert Burton, 52, was arrested Friday on a charge of racing on roadway causing serious bodily injury or death, said Shawn Vaughn, spokesman for TTPD.

Burton was identified as the driver of a second vehicle with whom Kalob Dolye was drag racing when Doyle struck LaQuania Hopkins' vehicle on Tuesday. Hopkins died at the scene of the accident.

Investigators determined that Doyle and Burton were racing their vehicles southbound on Richmond Road at a very high rate of speed about 5:27 on Tuesday afternoon. As Hopkins attempted to drive her 2003 Toyota Avalon across Richmond Road at Wheeler Street, Doyle's 2000 Ford Mustang struck her in the driver's side door.

Burton's 2007 Dodge Charger did not contact Hopkins' vehicle, and he immediately fled the scene without stopping, Vaughn said.

Burton turned himself in Friday after he was notified of the warrant being issued. He was booked into the Bi-State Jail, where his bond has been set at $100,000.

An arrest warrant for racing on roadway causing serious bodily injury or death has also been issued for Doyle, who suffered nonlife threatening injuries in the crash. He remained hospitalized at CHRISTUS St. Michael Hospital late Friday. Upon his release from the hospital, Doyle will also be arrested.

The investigators are still asking that anyone who may have witnessed this crash or have other pertinent information contact the Texarkana Texas Police Department at 903-798-3116.

Racing on roadway causing serious bodily injury or death is a second degree felony, punishable by two to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
