Texarkana College's board of trustees will meet in regular session Monday to consider reducing dual-credit course fees for financially disadvantaged students.

The college looked at data from a study it commissioned and its own dual-credit data and discovered that economically disadvantaged students are not enrolling in a lot of dual-credit courses. To increase enrollment, the administration is recommending that up to 12 hours of specific courses be offered to these students for a $50-per-course fee, half of the regular fee of $100. If the fee is approved Monday, TC will ask Bowie County school districts to cover the additional cost through their district or philanthropy.

Fiscal impact on the college is projected to be approximately $175,00 to $200,000 annually, based on current enrollment. That cost is expected to be offset through grants and/or donations.

Trustees will also consider moving the April 23 board meeting to April 30 to hold their annual retreat.

At that time, they will discuss strategic plans for the college. If approved, the meeting will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Perot Museum in the Palmer Memorial Library.

The board will also consider personnel items, including administrator contracts.

Monday's meeting will be held at 11:30 a.m. in the Patman Room of the Truman Arnold Student Center, 2500 N. Robison Road, Texarkana, Texas.
