Alzheimer's Alliance wine fest will be today at Spring Lake

The Alzheimer's Alliance Tri-State Area's fourth annual Un4gettable Twice as Fine Texarkana Wine Festival takes place from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Spring Lake Park.

"The weather is supposed to be pretty," said Terrie Arnold, Alzheimer's Alliance executive director. "As far as we can tell everything is on go. Unless there are storms or lightning, some kind of dangerous situation, the festival will go on. If it rains, put a ball cap and a rain slicker on and come on out."

Thursday night's storms took down some tents that had been erected for the festival, but workers were at the park on Friday setting everything back up.

"The tent people showed up bright and early. They've already put up what was taken down last night. It's in full swing," Arnold said.

There will be 26 wineries at the event, one Texas craft beer merchant, 60 artisan merchants and a large variety of food vendors.

For a complete list of merchants, visit Texarkanawinefestival.com.

The festival is free to attend, but there is a $10 entry fee into the wine garden, which includes a glass and a bag for wine. Wine samples are $1, and glasses of wine can be purchased for $5. Bottles of wine will be available for purchase.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Alzheimer's Alliance, which provides a variety of services to the community, including support and education materials for caregivers of those with Alzheimer's or another type of dementia. The organization also offers the Our Place Respite Center where it provides care for those with dementia, giving their caregivers a much-needed break.
