Texas Department of Transportation will hold an open house tonight to discuss the widening of Farm to Market Road 989/Kings Highway from Interstate 30 to north of Gibson Lane.
TxDOT proposes widening the highway from two lanes to five, with two lanes in each direction divided by a continuous left-turn lane. The outside traffic lanes will be 2 feet wider to accommodate bicycle traffic, and the new roadway will include curb and gutter drainage, 6-foot sidewalks and lighting.
The meeting will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Waggoner Creek Elementary School, 6335 Gibson Lane, Texarkana, Texas.
The community is invited to attend, express their views and discuss the project. TxDOT personnel will be available at the event to answer questions and receive written comments.
