An area historian will discuss a Southwest Arkansas race riot during a meeting of the Hempstead County Historical Society on Tuesday at the Presbyterian Church in Washington, Ark.
Peggy Lloyd, a retired archivist, will present the "Howard County Race Riot" at 7 p.m. The riot occurred in parts of Howard and northwestern Hempstead counties in the late 19th century, said Historical Society spokesman Josh Williams.
