Four Memorial Day services to be held

Texarkana features four services honoring our nation's fallen heroes and heroines this Memorial Day weekend.

The first service is at 2 p.m Sunday at Memorial Gardens on U.S. Highway 67, just past the Texarkana Regional Airport. Memorial Gardens and the Texarkana Area Veterans Council will host this service.

The second, third and fourth services take place on Monday, Memorial Day, with the first starting at 11 a.m., hosted by the American Legion at the Miller County Courthouse. Immediately following, a Memorial Day Walk will proceed from the courthouse west to the Korea-Vietnam Memorial near West Seventh Street and North State Line Avenue. There, at about 11:45 a.m., the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 278 will host the third service. This will be the chapter's 35th Memorial Day service at that site, and those attending might want to bring lawn chairs.

The fourth and last service, hosted by Texarkana Funeral Home, starts at 2 p.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery on U.S. Highway 67 West.

For residents unable to attend these services, there will be a National Moment of Remembrance at 3 p.m. local time all across America.
