Joint governors' appearance now postponed

Organizers have postponed a joint appearance by the governors of Arkansas and Texas that had been scheduled for next week in Texarkana.

Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott were slated to help launch AR-TX Regional Economic Development Incorporation at an event Thursday in front of the downtown post office and courthouse. Abbott canceled to instead attend a roundtable discussion on the recent school shooting in Santa Fe, Texas.

"We are postponing this event until both governors are able to attend. AR-TX REDI is now officially an organization and will begin working to grow our area's economy-in the meantime, please stand by while we secure a new launch date," a post on the organization's website stated.

Recently founded by local business, civic and higher education leaders, AR-TX REDI aims to bring new jobs to the Texarkana region through marketing the area's assets and recruiting businesses to locate here.
