Teeing off for veterans

Golfing tournament to raise money for support programs

A nonprofit organization dedicated to lowering the suicide rate among veterans is looking for sponsors for a local golf tournament fundraiser next month.

Mission 22, whose programs focus on helping veterans recover from the trauma of war, will hold a two-man scramble golf tournament June 30 at Texarkana Golf Ranch.

More than 20 veterans commit suicide every day in the U.S., according to Mission 22's Facebook page. Organizers say 86 percent of funds raised go toward programs to help veterans get treatment for post-traumatic stress or traumatic brain injury.

Sponsorship packages cost $160 to $2,000 and include one or two two-player teams:

  • Sergeant Major-$2,000 for two teams, a banner, signage on every green and the beer carts and a vendor table.
  • First Sergeant-$1,000 for two teams, a small banner and signage on the ninth and 18th greens and one beer cart.
  • Beer Convoy Cart-$400 for one team and signs on both beer carts.
  • Sergeant-$300 for one team and signs on two tee boxes.
  • Enlisted-$160 for one team.
