SAU to host Christmas parade, events on Nov. 29

MAGNOLIA, Ark.-Southern Arkansas University welcomes everyone home for the holidays for the annual Celebration of Lights on November 29.

The event kicks off with the family Christmas movie, "Home Alone," at 3 p.m. in Foundation Hall. Showings are also scheduled for 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Personalized holiday bears will be available at no charge while supplies last in the Reynolds Center from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Train rides will be available in the campus mall area from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Three story time sessions with Mrs. Claus will be held in Magale Library at 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. Children will receive a free copy of "Frosty the Snowman" while supplies last.

The Magnolia Christmas parade, "Candy Stripe Christmas," will begin at 5 p.m. It will end in the Reynolds Center parking lot at SAU.

Residence Hall Association Overstreet lighting will begin at approximately 6 p.m. following the parade and will feature greetings by RHA members and Dr. Trey Berry, president of SAU; lighting of the Christmas tree and the Centennial tree; and performances by the SAU Band, Heritage Singers and Chamber Singers. Refreshments will be available. Parade winners will also be announced at Overstreet Hall.

Heritage Singers and Chamber Singers will then lead visitors in song around Overstreet to the mall in the center of campus for the lighting of the Bell Tower.

Reynolds Center activities include photos with Santa and Angel Tree adoptions from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The buffet dinner and Christmas music will be from 6 p.m. to 8 pm. in Grand Hall at the Reynolds Center. Adult tickets are $9 and tickets for children 5-12 are $4. (Children under age 5 eat free.) Tickets can be purchased at the door.
