Commissioners to mull ESD appointments

NEW BOSTON, Texas-Bowie County Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. today to consider appointing board members to county's newly created Emergency Services District No. 5 , located in the Simms, Texas, area.

Bowie County Judge James Carlow said that there will need to be about five residents serving on the board. The district will have local taxing authority,

On Nov. 6, county residents voted to create the district, which will provide firefighting service and fire protection in the southwestern part of the county. The vote was 722 for and 293 against.

Carlow added that commissioners will also have to appoint a board to for the county's newly created Emergency Services District No. 6, which will served DeKalb as well as the nearby Malta and Hubbard communities-possibly before the end of this year.

In other business, commissioners will consider reappointing two members of Bowie County Housing Authority Board to serve another term. The two include Tish Hicks and Todd Reed. County resident Wallace York will be appointed to replace board member Wanda Looney, whose term will expire October of 2020.

Commissioner will also consider appointing county resident Fred Meisenheimer to the TexAmerica Center Board of Directors. They will further consider declaring a Bowie County Sheriff's Office 2003 Ford van as surplus property and ready for public sale.
