TASD board considers bus purchases

Texarkana, Ark., School District's Board of Directors will meet at 6 p.m. today to consider bids, a salary resolution and the gifted and talented application to the state.

The board is seeking to purchase two 77-passenger buses and received bids from Summit Bus Company, Central States Bus Sales and Midwest Bus Sales. The agenda states that the transportation department is working to maintain a bus fleet of no fewer than 32 buses, which are on average less than 10 years old.

Playground equipment at Trice Elementary is also on the agenda. The district received bids from Cunningham Recreation, May Recreation Equipment and Design and Davis Playgrounds

Bid amounts were not immediately available.

The salary resolution includes approval of the annual, state-required report. It lists those employees who have had salary increases of 5 percent or more in the past year. The report lists 216 classified and nonclassified employees.

The gifted and talented application is also state-required and includes a program outline for the 2018-19 school year. It details how the district plans to address the program's 10 state standards.

Board members will also select a delegate to the Arkansas School Board Association's Association Conference, to be held Dec. 5-7 in Little Rock.

An executive session is also planned for discussion of personnel.

The meeting will be held in the district's Administration Building, 3435 Jefferson Ave., Texarkana, Ark.
