Liberty-Eylau Independent School District's Board of Trustees approved the 2018 tax roll, the monthly financial report and a local policy regarding epinephrine pens during their regular meeting Thursday.

District Business Manager Susie Byrd said the 2018 tax roll from Bowie County Central Appraisal District shows a total taxable value of $569,304,402 and a total tax levy of $7,512,248.72.

She also gave the financial report, which shows that the district ended the month of September with $6.7 million in cash and investments and has collected $2.4 million in revenue. Of that number, $234,000 is in in tax collections.

She added that the district has spent $2.7 million in the construction account with the majority of that going to the elementary school project.

The board also approved changes to a local policy on non-assigned epinephrine auto injectors, also known as epi pens. The Department of State Health rules for the pen programs went into affect Aug. 1.

"Most students that need an epi pen carry one with with them and are assigned to them and the ones we have on campus can be used by anybody else who has an episode we need to use it for," Superintendent Ronnie Thompson said.

The rules also require that a sufficient number of district personnel trained in the usage of the pens be available during regular on-campus school hours and whenever school personnel are physically on site for school-sponsored activities. The previous policy only required trained personnel to be available from the first hour of instruction through the last hour of instruction. The change also requires the district to give notice to parents regarding the epinephrine program, including notice of any change to or discontinuation of the program.

Thompson also gave the enrollment report, which shows enrollment at the end of September was 2,482, 19 students lower than September 2017.

The board also approved a budget amendment to reflect changes in payroll.

The next meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15 in the Board Room, 2901 Leopard Drive, Texarkana, Texas.
