Pleasant Grove Independent School District's Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting at 12 p.m. today to consider appointing an interim superintendent.

During a special meeting Monday, the board approved hiring a superintendent search firm to seek a replacement for Superintendent Dr. Jason Smith, who has been named the lone finalist for the president's position at Texarkana College. TC's Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting Nov. 5 to formally offer Smith the position. He will replace TC President James Henry Russell, who will leave the position Dec. 31 to work as the executive vice president and chief financial officer of BWI Companies, Inc., a wholesaler and distributor of diversified agricultural products.

Smith has been with the district for three years and during that time, voters passed a $19.9 million bond issue for a new elementary school, increased security and technology infrastructure upgrades. His first day at TC will be Jan. 1.

Before Smith was selected as superintendent, the board hired former school service director Mark Roberts as interim superintendent following the resignation of Todd Williams, the district's previous superintendent.

The meeting will be held in the Central Services, 8500 N. Kings Highway, Texarkana, Texas.
