The 20th annual Susan G. Komen Arkansas Race for the Cure Texarkana is downtown Saturday at Front Street Festival Plaza.

Ceremonies kick off at 8:30 a.m., the competitive 5K begins at 9 a.m. and the 1.5-mile downtown walk starts at 9:30 a.m.

Roads will be closed downtown at 8:30 a.m. from approximately Oak Street to Pecan Street.

The best way for participants to get to the plaza is via shuttles, said Amber Lawrence, Komen Arkansas southwest region director.

Shuttles will pick participants up beginning at 6:30 a.m. from Razorback Stadium, Wadley Regional Medical Center parking lots on Texas Boulevard, Beech Street Baptist Church, St. Edward Catholic Church and First United Methodist-Arkansas.

Participants will be able to "get in and out of the area freely versus their cars being parked inside the race course where streets will be shut down until 10 a.m." Lawrence said.

Race Day Registration will be located at the caboose on Wood and Broad streets.

A limited number of handicap spaces are available on Broad Street between Wood and Olive streets. Survivor-only parking is available at the former Regions Bank Building parking lot.

Late registration will be available at 7 a.m. Saturday but there will be an additional $10 tacked onto the entry fee of $35 for competitive runners, $25 for regular participants and $20 for children 12 and under.

Closing ceremonies and team awards are at 10:30 a.m. the Front Street stage

Organizers expect 5,000 participants at the event and hope to raise $250,000. Of the money raised, 25 percent goes to research and 75 percent stays here locally, Lawrence said.

Race for the Cure has been a success here since its inception.

"We hope that when people walk through the gate, they are inspired." Lawrence said. "This is an opportunity for people to support their local community and raise funds for people around them who need it."
