A Texarkana man who fatally shot another at a local car wash last year pleaded guilty to murder Monday at a hearing in Bowie County.

Jimmy Jerome Dancer, 30, will return to court Wednesday for formal sentencing before 202nd District Judge John Tidwell.

Tidwell said the delay in sentencing is to allow members of the victim's family to be present in court. If they choose, members of Tilford Barfield III's family will be permitted to address Dancer at the hearing and give a victim-impact statement.

A clear motive for the shooting remains undetermined. Barfield was shot multiple times March 24, 2017, at the Bay Wash at 4203 N. State Line Ave. According to earlier reports, Barfield was hit by bullets in the abdomen and both legs while among a crowd watching a fight.

Dancer entered a guilty plea Monday with the help of Texarkana lawyers Joe Tyler and Shorty Barrett. First Assistant District Attorney Mike Shepherd and Assistant District Attorney Katie Carter are representing the state.

Dancer has been in jail since turning himself in a day after the gunfire took Barfield's life. His bail was set at $2 million.

Dancer faces five to 99 years or life in prison at sentencing.
