De Queen's annual cleanup campaign begins soon

The annual De Queen, Ark., fall cleanup campaign is scheduled for Oct. 8-12.

"The city will assist by picking up big items, recycling electronics and collecting unused paint," said De Queen Mayor Billy Ray McKelvy.

"The code enforcement and Fire Department have made a concentrated effort this summer to tackle problem areas around the city, including city property," he said.

"The street and sanitation department spent a week cleaning up the corner at Treating Plant Road and Coulter Drive to improve safety around public schools. Two older mowers were moved from the parks department to the street department, where they are being used to mow along city streets," he said.

"Cleanup issues are a common complaint at the city, but to make a difference will require an effort by all city residents," McKelvy said.

"During cleanup week, old electronics will be collected at the fire station for recycling. Please bring these only during cleanup week when a trailer is available. Unused paint will also be collected at the fire station," he said.

Anyone who has an old automobile to be removed should call Baker's Sales and Service.

"For pickup of large items, call City Hall at 584-3445 so you can be put on the pickup list. Remember, you must call for service," McKelvy said.
