Free workshops will provide education for diabetes patients

There will be a few free Diabetes Self-Management class series starting soon. Classes start Friday, Monday and Oct. 15 and meet at a variety of locations and times.

The series are six-session workshops taught by Salus Centre, LLC, with the goal of educating diabetics about what is happening inside their bodies and what they can do to live their best possible life.

"The emphasis is on teaching healthy personal goal setting and celebrating those achievements in a group setting," said Janet Hutchison, registered nurse and co-owner of Salus Centre. "These workshops are offered through a coalition of parties and resources seeking to improve health and wellness in persons with diabetes."

Participants are asked to commit to attending all six classes.

"Each class builds on the previous class. As a result of these workshops, we are seeing people becoming more confident and optimistic about their abilities to positively impact their own health," Hutchison said. "They are achieving measurable changes in body weight and lab values. It is very exciting."

Seating is limited for the classes.

To sign up, call 903-832-8378 and leave a message.
