Annual bike ride supporting the disabled is Saturday

The seventh annual Ark-La-Tex Challenge bike ride will be at 9 a.m. on Saturday at Liberty-Eylau High School, 2905 Leopard Dr.

The ride benefits Texarkana Resources, a nonprofit organization that supports individuals with disabilities.

"Everyone should come ride," Ride Director Jennifer Lewis said. "It's our seventh year and it goes to a great cause. The Ark-La-Tex Challenge offers both novice and experienced cyclists a ride unlike many others.

"The ride will allow you to ride through three states in one ride."

Route Lengths include:

- 70 Miles - Ark-La-Tex Challenge

- 52 Miles - Texas/Arkansas Loop

- 46 Miles - Arkansas/Texas Out and Back

- 35 Miles - Ark-La-Tex with Non-Supported Return

- 22 Miles - Arkansas/ Texas Challenge out and back

- .5 Miles - Kids Ride/ Look Ma No Hands! (10 and under)

Five different distances are offered to accommodate different cyclist levels. Thirty-five miles into the 70-mile route, the rider will arrive at the Three States location and get to take a victory photo standing in Arkansas, Texas, and Louisiana.

The Three States Marker is at the intersection of Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas on Texas Highway 77 southeast of Atlanta, Texas.

The kid's ride stays on the school campus. All children need to bring a helmet in order to ride, Lewis said.

Additionally, there will be bounce houses, popcorn machine, kids activity area, and other activities post ride.

General Registration remains open through Friday. Registration is $35 for adults, $25 for kids 12-and-under and $20 for kids doing the 10-and-under rides.

Online registration closes at 2 p.m. on Friday.

Late registration will be held at Berridge Bikes at 6 p.m. Friday along with early packet pick-up.

Participants can also register the morning of the event for $50.

Everyone who registers receives a T-shirt and bag of goodies.
