After years of not having a local store, Spring Bank Landing opens in Doddridge

After years of inconvenient isolation, a new store opening in Doddridge, Ark., will offer local residents a place to pick up their groceries, staples and gas without having to drive for miles.

Spring Bank Landing, set to open today, will be Doddridge's new general store. It will also serve breakfast, lunch and warm pizza all day.

"Doddridge has been without a local store for around a decade," said Jessica Bumgardner, co-owner of Spring Bank Landing with her husband, Sam Bumgardner IV. "Locals have to go to Fouke, Texarkana and other places for the basics and we want to help out with that."

"This property used to be a full-service gas station," said Sam Bumgardner III, father of Sam Bumgardner. "Originally built in 1970, it closed sometime in the mid-90s. It has remain closed until now."

Sam III has been a part of preparing Spring Bank Landing for business, putting in work to get the building ready.

"We are  near the location where a ferry used to dock, transporting vehicles across the Red River," Sam III said. "The ferry became a full bridge in the 90s."

Doddridge, a community with a sand mining facility to support fracking operations, has business watchers looking to see what other activity will begin as a result.
