NEW BOSTON, Texas-Opening statements and testimony are expected to begin this morning at the Bowie County courthouse for a man accused of inadvertently killing his wife while shooting at someone else.

Travon Martreas Walker, 27, is accused of firing the bullet that fatally struck 23-year-old Kaitlin Lee in an alley near Brookwood Drive in Texarkana, Texas, in January 2018. Walker allegedly shot at a man with whom one of Walker's friends had been fighting in the 200 block of Apache Trail when the projectile missed its target and struck Lee, according to a probable-cause affidavit.

Walker allegedly fired several shots at the man with whom his friend had been exchanging punches after the fight ended.

Walker was initially charged with deadly conduct for shooting the gun, but evidence developed later allegedly pointed to Walker as the person who fired the bullet that killed his wife.

A jury of eight women and four men was chosen Tuesday to decide the case before 5th District Judge Bill Miller. Assistant District Attorney Katie Carter is prosecuting, and Walker is represented by Texarkana lawyer Josh Potter.

Walker is being held in the Bowie County jail. The trial is expected to end this week.
