DVP shelter needs donations

Domestic Violence Prevention, Inc. is in critical need of donations for residents of its shelter.

"It's urgent because these women and their children come to the shelter with almost nothing. They've had to leave everything behind," said Emily Mulholland, program coordinator for DVP. "It's just crucial that they get clothes and food, especially for these babies."

Needed items include:

Neuro Pro Enfamil Formula; Gerber Soothe Formula; pacifiers; sippy cups; bottles; bibs; jars of baby food; finger foods for babies; baby cereal; 12 month to 24 month clothing; new panties for women and a variety of sizes and a new washer and dryer.

"As far as the washer and dryer we're asking for financial donations so we can purchase what we need," Mulholland said.

The DVP shelter is almost full.

"At max capacity the shelter can house 29 and we're near that," Mulholland said.

Women and children can stay there as they work toward self-sustainability.

"The length of stay varies case to case. It depends on what they are working toward. We are not an extended stay shelter but they can stay as long as they are working toward a certain goal like finding a place to live, finding a job or until they can get on their feet," Mulholland said.

DVP has started and Amazon wish list to make it easier for people to shop. That wish list can be accessed through their Facebook page. Items can also be dropped off at DVP from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at 424 Spruce St., Texarkana, Texas. Call 903-794-4000 for more information.
